The Dongshan Grassland in Tengchong City, Yunnan Province, is known as the "Heavenly Grassland" by locals due to its relatively high altitude compared to the urban area. Since the 1980s, this grassland has experienced ecological destruction and degradation, but after years of governance by Tengchong City, it has transformed into the ecological oasis it is today.
The Dongshan Grassland in Tengchong City was designated as a state-owned pasture by the government in 1983. Due to long-term overgrazing, the grassland has deteriorated severely and the grassland area has gradually shrunk. Since 2012, Tengchong City has carried out special cleaning and rectification of the Dongshan grassland.
In 2016, the Tengchong Municipal Government transferred the Dongshan Grassland to Yunnan Hengyi Group for paid use. With strong support from the Tengchong Municipal Party Committee, Municipal Government, and relevant departments, enterprises are focusing on implementing the "Tengchong City Degraded Grassland Artificial Grass Planting Pilot Project".
By implementing measures such as artificial grass planting, promoting the cultivation of local grass, grass seed breeding, soil and water conservation, and establishing an ecological restoration monitoring and management platform, the enterprise has carried out grassland management of 22000 acres, effectively curbing phenomena such as overgrazing and disorderly use of grasslands. The beautiful scenery of mountains, clear waters, blue sky, and green grass is once again before people's eyes.
Adhering to the principle of "developing while protecting while developing", the Dongshan grassland has gradually developed tourism and animal husbandry industries, and stimulated public participation. Local villagers have achieved employment and income increase at their doorstep. At present, Dongshan Grassland has developed into an AAA level scenic spot integrating animal husbandry and sightseeing.
